Eileen Milner takes over as CILEX Chair
Eileen Milner became the new chair of CILEX in January, taking over the position from Professor Chris Bones, who stepped down after six years in the role.
Writing in her first column for the Journal she praised CILEX members for showing “commitment, personal resilience and the confidence that you can make a difference in your chosen practice of the law”, and said CILEX would “walk alongside you and ensure that we continue to challenge prejudices that have prevailed in the legal profession”.
This, she said is “not because we are looking for special treatment but rather, because equality and parity of treatment and esteem, are core principles of good law”.
Ms Milner is chair of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust and the Children and Families Trust for Bradford and District. She was previously chief executive of the Education and Skills Funding Agency, responsible for skills, apprenticeships and technical education as well as the regulation of colleges, independent training providers, academies and free schools.
Prior to that, she was chief operating officer at the Care Quality Commission and has also worked at senior level in the commercial sector in both the technology industry and public service advisory work.
