Justice Week 2020: discussing legal rights and obligations
The three branches of the legal profession will, once again, welcome this important event, running from 24 to 28 February.
Justice Week 2020 will focus on raising awareness among young people of the importance of the justice system and the value of the rule of law in playing a fundamental role for the protection of our rights and freedoms.
Set up by CILEx, the Bar Council and the Law Society in 2018 as a new initiative, the main purpose of Justice Week is to boost the profile of justice and the rule of law, by helping to place these core principles at the centre of public and political debate.
Debating legal rights and delivering legal education
A basic understanding of how the law works and the role of justice in society, politics and business is essential. People should know their rights, how they can enforce them and what measures are in place to protect them.
Justice Week 2020 will provide a platform to debate just this, and to look at how we can ensure that this vital legal education takes place. From schools to the media, the Week will emphasise the work our institutions still have to do to demystify, scrutinise and promote the legal world.
The different themes covered by Justice Week 2020 will enable everyone involved to see the impact that our laws have on today’s most pressing issues: Protecting our freedom; Fighting for rights; Defending democracy; and Saving our planet
Get involved with Justice Week
Between now and 24 February, legal professionals and third sector organisations are invited to contact CILEx with proposals for initiatives to strengthen the public’s understanding of the justice system.
