HM Land Registry

A portal to time saved

As part of our Digital Transformation Programme, HM Land Registry (HMLR) is enhancing HM Land Registry portal.

We have been working to make it faster and easier than ever before to submit and check the status of your applications

In recent months, we have been working to make it faster and easier than ever before to submit and check the status of your applications. Our customer charter saw us commit to improving our services and driving innovation, so what better place to start than the source of 74% of our applications?

View My Applications

In early summer 2020, you will be able to easily find and view the latest updates on applications submitted through the portal, along with the latest correspondence - including notices, requisitions and letters - all in one place. This will make it quicker and simpler to find the information you need, including the ability to view an estimated completion date. The estimated date (a reflection of our latest speed of service standards) will assist with forward planning and, alongside our other enhancements, reduce the need to take the time to contact us specifically for status updates.

Digital registration service

Later this year, we will be launching our digital registration service for all HMLR portal users. This will simplify the way you submit applications to HMLR, starting with our most common form, the AP1.

This enhancement will recognise and highlight any potential errors before you submit your applications, which would previously have resulted in HMLR sending out requests for further information (known as ‘requisitions’). A variety of features, including prompts to attach missing documents, highlighting discrepancies between names entered on the application and those on the Register, and fee calculation, will all minimise the more common issues we find in applications.

This update, and a new capability to prepopulate some aspects of the form based on existing information, will save you valuable time in both the submission and processing of applications. In addition, you will be able to submit up to 10 applications under the same title within a single application, as well as save your progress in an application and return to complete it later, all of which will avoid repeated entry of the same information.

Coronavirus (COVID-19): impact on our services

Since the start of the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown, HM Land Registry has been operating as close to normal as possible in the circumstances. The portal has been essential in ensuring we continue to receive and process the majority of all applications. It is clear that our digital services are becoming increasingly important as more people are working remotely, especially in the light of the social distancing measures taken to tackle the coronavirus pandemic. Thanks to these digital tools, our core services, which help people look for a property, arrange a mortgage or progress through to exchanging contracts - all essential for property deals to take place - are now being delivered, as normal, within 2 to 3 working days.

We have been undergoing a digital transformation since the publication of our business strategy in 2017. These enhancements to portal are just a part of this ongoing transformation.
