HM Land Registry:
making it easier for you to do business with us
HM Land Registry (HMLR) is improving its Business e-services portal and wants to share upcoming developments.
About the author:
Chris Pope is chief operations
officer at HMLR.We are making it easier for our professional customers to do business with us. Portal, also known as Business e-Services Portal, is HMLR’s primary web-based channel aimed at our professional customers. The channel offers direct access to HMLR information and enables the online submission of certain applications through the electronic Document Registration Service (e-DRS).
New accessible portal interface
In spring 2020, we will be launching a new accessible portal interface that will help users to manage their portal applications and correspondence in one centralised location. The new features include:
- A consolidated view of multiple screens, with one easy-to-use interface to manage portal applications.
- All correspondence relating to these applications (notices, requests for information (requisitions) and letters sent to the user directly) will be viewable from this central interface.
- An ‘estimated completion date’ based on our average completion times.
Future developments to HMLR services
We welcome customer feedback to help shape future developments to our services. In our customer charter, we made the commitment to work with our customers to improve our services.¹ We are continuing to develop our services to make it easier and more intuitive to self-serve and increase speed of service for our customers.
One of the services we have developed to improve speed of service for customers is our ‘Sign your Mortgage deed service’. The service was launched by HMLR to reduce paperwork and delays when applying for a remortgage, and customers with several high street banks are now using the service.
As well as speeding up the remortgaging process, the way the service has been designed makes it more convenient for home owners. Because the whole process is completed online, it can be done at any time of the day and anywhere with an internet connection, meaning that the service is not delayed by people waiting until they get home, needing to buy stamps, or making the last post. In some instances, customers using the service have been able to complete the remortgage process in three days, ie, 18 days less than average for a paper transaction. Recently, the service hit a significant milestone, as the 1,000th digital remortgage deed was registered. We would encourage all CILEx readers to make their clients aware of our digital mortgage service. You can find more details on our online guidance pages.²
